Happy Moments

It has been another terrific week at Griffith!
Here are my top three moments for this week:
3) I was able to make a ton of progress on planning my service learning project this week! I attended the family engagement meeting this morning and shared the project options I came up with with the principal and some teachers. It seemed that most of them liked the idea of having students donate canned goods to give to the food bank. My project (the donation of the cans) will take place November 20th, the night of the fall festival at Griffith. So, everyone, get pumped! I am looking forward to recruiting some of you wonderful fellow members to help me take cans from students that night and to help me count them afterwards and possibly load them up to take to the food bank. I will have sign up sheets and more details of the "steps" of my project once I write up the project plan and have it approved. Thank you so much in advance for your help!! I will be happy to help you with your projects, too. I am thinking of having the celebration for the grade level who donates the most cans either sometime in December or after the winter break. More details about when I will need some help will be coming. Thanks so much in advance!
2) It has been so rewarding to help some of the parents in the literacy program who do not know as much English compared to some of the other parents in the program! Today I helped one of them with some pronouciations (sp.?), and I could tell she was so grateful for my help. Moments like that make me so happy!
3) The student I am tutoring after school has made great progress~and we've only worked together two weeks! This week, we enjoyed reading the book Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs. And, we worked really hard on some of her math. I am looking forward to working with her more!
Be on the look out for my top three moments next week!

Numero Cinco

It has been a great week here at Griffith. Ready or not, here are my top three moments for this week! :)
3) It was great to see Cynthia today! She came and observed the literacy class, and I was able to introduce her to my site contact and the principal. I am really excited; tomorrow I get to work with the three parents in our class who need to practice some more on new words and swallowing their fears, and speaking English! I think my work with these three women will be truly rewarding.
2) I am also thrilled to be tutoring Roseanne's daughter, Sonya on Monday and Tuesday after school. It has been so rewarding to help her make progress academically. I get so excited when she understands! She is such a sweetie!
3) Finally, it was great to hear who I will mentoring. I sent a letter home today that the social worker gave out to let their parents know about the mentoring program at Griffith.
Also, I am super excited to attend a young adult group at Eastminster Presbyterian church on Thursday night called 242. I think I may have found my church home here in the Wichita area. :)
As I said, this week has been just great!
